1.1.2 WHAT IS THE TOPIC SENTENCE?

The topic sentence in a paragraph clearly states the main idea of the paragraph. While it is usually at the beginning of the paragraph, it also can be in the middle or end of it. A topic sentence is the unifying or main idea of a paragraph. It is often found at the beginning of the paragraph to give a reader an idea of what is coming.
